My favorite 50 songs of 2011

OK, so I may be a lil late with this list. Eff that, I'm maaaad late.

See what had happened was... my computer stopped working in mid-December. The same computer which contained all the songs I loved from 2011, as well as this list. Took this bad boy over to the friendly folks at Staples recently, who must be into some black magic shit because every time they booted my computer from the store, it worked perfectly but at my crib, I have to unplug it & then plug it back in to get it to turn on. I realize this excuse not only makes me seem broke but lame as well. Talk about killing two birds with one stone!

Normally, I would just cut my losses & wait to post my list for next year but you know what? This list has sentimental value to me. Last year's list of my favorite 50 songs was the first blog I ever posted. I can't go out like no sucka, feel me? So with that said, I made the executive decision (as if I have a staff, smh) to post my list of my favorite 50 songs of 2011... now. In June. A good FIVE (yes, CAPS) months after I should've originally posted it. What can I say, better late than never, right? Right?!

A refresher: This is a list of MY favorite songs of 2011. Not yours, not yo mama's, but MINE. Debate all you want... hell, I love a good debate... but I can't help what my alien eardrums enjoy. My taste can be electic at times & that's reflected by some colorful(?) entries on this list. That doesn't mean I don't want your feedback, so feel free to add some of your 2011 favs.

Anyway, here's the damn list. Holler!

15. Rihanna 'We Found Love'
14. Adell 'Rolling In The Deep'
13. Jay-Z & Kanye West 'H.A.M.'
12. Grafh 'If I Get Away'
11. Britney Spears 'I Wanna Go'

10. Cam'ron & Vado 'Hey Muma'
I love it when NY rap sounds like NY rap. And this definitely sounds like NY rap. Loved 'Speakin' Tongues' from last year & this one tops that. Always been a Cam fan & Vado is one of my new favs. Besides, calling girls 'ma' was getting played out, anyway.

9. Eminem feat. Slaughterhouse & Yelawolf '2.0 Boys'
When I say 'hip', y'all say 'hop'! Shady is building an incredible empire with their latest two signees & they put their skills on full display on this one. Definitely a sign of things to come, as I can assure you Slaughterhouse will hold down a spot on this countdown next year.

8. Frank Ocean 'We All Try'
As you can tell, I listen to a lot of that pop, dance shit. Not the most mature shit, I know, but when I wanna get it in while at the club, it gets the job done. When I need to contemplate & get my grown man on, though, I throw on something like this. Can't wait for the debut album.

7. Pink 'Fuckin' Perfect'
Calling all lovers of people with low self-esteem! On the real, Pink is that chick. Who would've thought that the girl who debuted as an urban R&B singer would have a greatest hits album over a decade later full of badass, pop/rock hits? Not to mention it's impossible to hate a song with a curse in the title. IMPOSSIBLE.

6. Romeo feat. Usher 'Promise'
And here comes my Latino side rearing it's platano-eating head. Bachata usually makes me break out in hives but this is brilliant. Telling a girl you want to give her your heart but she has to promise you she won't break it... pero que lindo! Now only if I could learn to dance to this shit.

5. Pitbull feat. Ne-Yo 'Give Me Everything (Tonight)'
There's no hiding it anymore. I love Pitbull. Not hard to tell, he's all over this got damn list. Shit, I had to stop myself from adding more Pitbull, to be honest. You don't even wanna imagine what kind of fool I become when I've thrown a few back & this song comes on. This lil jam is gonna be around for a loooooong time.

4. Saigon 'Bring Me Down'
Remember when I said that I love when NY rap sounds like NY rap. Well, yeah. I always thought Saigon was full of potential but he never really put it together. Here he does. I can't even count the amount of calories I've burned on the eliptical while this was banging on my iPod.

3. Jay-Z & Kanye West 'Niggas In Paris'
It's a rule that when Jay drops new material, he is guarenteed a spot in my top 10. Add Kanye to the mix & top 3 is a lock. I went to the Throne concert and these fools performed this song THREE times! I thought my head was gonna explode. Let's not forget that this song successfully incorporates an exercpt from 'Blades of Glory'. That's no easy feat!

2. Miguel 'Sure Thing'
I'll admit, it's a lil awkward to hear Miguel address his 'woman' in the first line of this song & tell her he wants to 'love her like a brother'. This song is so sick, I'm willing to look past that. Second straight year I've had an R&B song in the runner-up position. Is 2012 the year my sensitive side comes out in full bloom?

1. XV 'The Kick'
Unless you're a crazy hip-hop head, you probably haven't heard this song. Even then, this song could've slipped past you. But I strongly encourage you to give this a listen when you get a chance. This is what I love about hip-hop. This is what I miss about hip-hop. This is my favorite song of 2011.

And we're done. See, that wasn't so bad. And to think, we get to do this again in 7 months! Well, unless my computer decides not to work again. Grrrrrrrr.

Enjoy the rest of 2012!
